China Telecom's New Promotion for Satellite-Enabled Phone Service

TapTechNews July 11th news, as major manufacturers have launched their own flagship phones that support satellite functions, China Telecom has also launched a new promotion campaign.

In simple terms, China Telecom users can now enjoy 1-year free offer (giving 10 yuan per month for 12 consecutive months) when applying for the direct-to-satellite function. After ordering, the direct-to-satellite function will be automatically brought out. (TapTechNews note: it can provide 2 minutes of free satellite call duration per month). Specific rules may vary depending on the contract.

Of course, the 12-month free package expires and automatically cancels after one year, while the 10-yuan/month direct-to-satellite function is valid for a long time. Users still need to cancel it by themselves if they no longer need it then.

Currently, mobile phones that support the direct-to-satellite function include Huawei Mate 60 Pro, Huawei P70 Pro+, Huawei P70 Ultra, Honor Magic 6 Pro, Honor Magic 6 Ultimate Edition, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, OPPO Find X7 Ultra satellite communication version, and vivo X100 Ultra. Those in need can order by themselves.

China Telecom launched the mobile phone direct-to-satellite service on September 8, 2023. Users can add the direct-to-satellite service on the basis of their ordinary mobile phone card packages.

Direct-to-satellite function costs 10 yuan per month.

Direct-to-satellite voice package of 50 minutes costs 200 yuan.

Direct-to-satellite voice package of 100 minutes costs 300 yuan.

Direct-to-satellite voice package of 200 minutes costs 500 yuan.

If you don't order a voice package, both making and receiving calls need to be charged. The domestic (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) call price is 9 US dollars/minute.

According to the introduction on the official website of China Telecom, the direct-to-satellite function costs 10 US dollars per month and gives 2 minutes of both incoming and outgoing calls for free every month. The domestic (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) standard tariff for calls is 9 US dollars/minute for both incoming and outgoing calls; sending a text message costs 5 US dollars per message and receiving is free.

If it exceeds the package quota, the domestic call will be charged at 1.6 US dollars/minute (bidirectional charging for both the caller and the callee), the text message is 0.4 US dollars per message (sent to customers of Chinese mainland operators), 1.2 US dollars per message (sent to customers of operators outside Chinese mainland), and receiving is free; calling fixed and mobile phones in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan is 3.8 US dollars/minute; calling fixed and mobile phones in other countries and regions is 9.8 US dollars/minute.
