Ford CEO on Mustang Expansion and Future Plans

TapTechNews May 17th news, Ford's CEO, Jim Farley, recently attended the Goodwood Members' Meeting and stated that the Mustang is the world's best-selling two-door sports car and has a large number of loyal fans globally.

Farley said that the derivative models of the Mustang must have the 'performance and attitude' of the existing models so as to repay the support of these fans. TapTechNews translated part of Farley's content as follows:

We will not make a Mustang car without the 'oul of Mustang', so the Mustang LOGO will never appear in the Ford small double-row SUV.

But we are also actively exploring more possibilities of the Mustang, such as a four-door car or something else? I believe we can, as long as these models have all the performance and attitude of the original model.

Farley said that for the Mustang brand to move forward, it must 'build on top' of the two-door sports car, which should not only meet the acceptance level of traditional buyers but also actively expand other versions to make it no longer limited to the two-door sports car, just like what Porsche has done with its 911 GT3RS and GT2RS models.

Farley said, 'In the past 20 years, Porsche has been very smart in developing derivative models, but we don't want to do it their way. We want to give the Mustang an American good chance'.

He believes that one of the ways to reduce costs and improve the performance of the cheaper version may be to reduce weight, and a development plan is currently being implemented to explore ways to achieve this goal.
