TapTechNews on June 21, it was reported that Apple announced the launch of a全新 API at the WWDC2024 Worldwide Developers Conference last week. In iOS/iPadOS 17.4, macOS 14 Sonoma and subsequent versions, third-party developers can call this API to provide built-in translation functions in their Apps.
Apple has currently provided system-level translation functions in browsers such as Safari, and this new API is launched to facilitate the rapid implementation of translation in other Apps. For example, if a user is chatting with a foreign friend, the App can call the API to quickly translate it into Chinese.
In the iOS/iPadOS 17.4 and macOS 14 Sonoma systems, the translated text is directly overlaid. TapTechNews learned from the report that Apple further enhanced the function of the API in iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. The translated text can be displayed in a row in the application.
Another language-related change in iOS 18 is the support for bilingual keyboards. For example, you can type in English and Korean on the same keyboard without manually switching languages, and there are corresponding word suggestions for each language.
Apple is currently inviting developers to test iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, and plans to officially release it along with the iPhone 16 series of phones this fall.
