China's Shenzhou-18 Crew Set to Conduct Second Extravehicular Activity Soon
TapTechNews July 2nd News, the China Manned Space Engineering Office stated that the Shenzhou-18 crew is currently in good condition, and the space station assembly is operating stably. The 'post-80s' crew will soon choose an opportune time to conduct the second extravehicular activity.
According to the introduction, since the successful completion of the first extravehicular activity, the Shenzhou-18 crew has successively completed the maintenance of the space station experiment cabinets and component installation, the monitoring of the space station cabin environment, the preparation for the second extravehicular activity, and other tasks. The experimental projects in the fields of space materials science, space life science, and aerospace medicine they undertook are advancing steadily.
Referring to TapTechNews' previous report, the astronauts Ye Guangfu and Li Guangsu of the Shenzhou-18 crew carried out the first extravehicular activity mission at 18:58 Beijing time on May 28, 2024, which lasted for about 8.5 hours.
As planned, during the Shenzhou-18 manned flight mission, a large number of scientific experiments and technical tests will be carried out, as well as the extravehicular activities of the astronaut crew and the extravehicular tasks of the application load.
The Shenzhou-18 astronaut crew successfully entered the space station assembly on April 26, 2024 Beijing time. They have been working and living on orbit for more than two months, and the Shenzhou-18 astronaut crew will stay at the space station for about 6 months.
During the on-orbit period, the Shenzhou-18 crew will carry out space science and application experiments and tests, implement the astronaut's extravehicular activities and the loading and unloading of goods, and carry out the installation of the space station space debris protection device, the installation and recovery of the extravehicular load and the extravehicular equipment. In addition, they will also carry out science popularization education and public welfare activities, as well as space-borne experiments.
