TikTok stated that the company will no longer compete with music streaming services but guide users to use other platforms through the 'Add to Music App' feature. This feature was launched last year and allows users to save the songs they like on TikTok to the playlists of partner services such as Spotify, AppleMusic, and Amazon.

The closure of TikTokMusic represents the failure of ByteDance's attempt to use the huge influence of TikTok and the music fan base to build a music streaming service. TikTok videos have promoted the rise of many hit songs and new artists, but this has also triggered conflicts with record companies, which demand higher royalties.

According to TapTechNews, TikTokMusic was initially launched in 2019 under the name Resso, and the application is available in Brazil, Indonesia, Australia, Mexico, and Singapore.
