TapTechNews May 21 news, Microsoft further elaborated on its future vision for AIPC at the Build Developer Preview Conference held today.
Microsoft's chief executive Satya Nadella took the stage to deliver a speech and put forward the promotional name of Copilot+PCs, and described it as a new type of Windows PC.
One hardware requirement of Copilot+PCs is that it does not rely on the cloud and can process the generative AI Copilot process locally, which requires a chipset with a neural processing unit (NPU). Manufacturers such as Qualcomm have laid the foundation through chips like the Snapdragon XElite.
Microsoft is taking a partner-first approach to manufacturing Copilot+PC. In addition to chip manufacturers such as AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm, major original equipment manufacturers such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo have also joined in.
Other AI PCs on the market can offer 10 TOPs (trillions of operations per second) of performance. To be called a Copilot+PC, the system needs to provide at least 40 TOPs of NPU performance.
Microsoft says it has re-engineered the Windows 11 system, and Copilot+PC is 58% faster than the most advanced MacBook Air with an M3 processor, and has a battery life of more than 1 day. TapTechNews attaches the picture as follows:
