Global Tablet and Chromebook Market Updates in Q2 2024
TapTechNews August 6th news, Canalys released a report today. In the second quarter of 2024, the global tablet shipment increased by 18% year-on-year to 35.9 million units. Meanwhile, as the education market returned to the typical seasonal purchasing pattern, the Chromebook shipment increased by 4% to 6 million units.
Canalys analyst Kieren Jessop said: In the first half of 2024, the tablet industry performed well. After experiencing a difficult 2023, it is expected to further improve in the second half. Due to the aggressive marketing strategies adopted by domestic manufacturers, the popularity of tablets in China has been increased, and the Chinese tablet market shows a strong growth momentum. As these manufacturers target the international market, the shipment in regions such as the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe is also on the rise. In India, the government's education tender has driven the growth of demand, and the local equipment manufacturing guidelines are also expected to benefit the future growth of the manufacturers that have made some deployments.

1. In the second quarter of 2024, Apple continued to lead in the global tablet market with a shipment of 13.9 million units, occupying 39% of the market share.
2. Thanks to the strong shipment of Samsung's flagship models and the growth of demand in emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific region, it achieved a 13% year-on-year growth, with a shipment of 6.8 million units.
3. Driven by the demand in the domestic and EMEA (EMEA) markets, Huawei firmly ranked third with a shipment of 2.5 million units and a year-on-year growth of up to 51%.
4. Due to Lenovo's strengthening of its global business, it ranked fourth with a shipment of 2.5 million units and a year-on-year growth of 16%.
5. Xiaomi ranked fifth, surpassing Amazon with a significant 106% growth rate and a shipment of 2.1 million units.
The performance of the global Chromebook market
Canalys analyst Greg Davis said: The Chromebook shipment showed a typical seasonal growth in the second quarter, with a year-on-year growth of 4% and a shipment slightly more than 6 million units. The Chromebook shipment in this quarter was supported by regional educational funding programs, such as the US Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF), which requires the expenditure to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2024. The discount promotion in the retail channel also contributed to the demand for Chromebooks, especially in the educational environment of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). Although the shipment in the third quarter is expected to decline sequentially, as Chromebooks gain a foothold in the education field and the further integration of edge-side AI functions, the overall trend of this category remains positive.
In the Chromebook market, HP had a shipment of 1.7 milli on units in the second quarter of 2024, with a market share of 28%, continuing to hold the first place. Lenovo ranked second with a global Chromebook shipment of 1.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 9%. Acer, which had the fastest growth this quarter, ranked third with a shipment of 1.2 million units due to its success in government tenders in the Asia-Pacific region. Dell and ASUS ranked fourth and fifth respectively, and both showed a year-on-year decline in shipment.
