Baidu's Ex-IDG General Manager Su Tan Joins Microsoft Cloud, Boosts Auto Business

TapTechNews August 1st news, Leifeng.com's New Intelligent Driving reported that Su Tan, the general manager of Baidu's IDG (TapTechNews note: Intelligent Driving Business Group) automotive business department who left in early July, joined Microsoft Cloud and reported to Yuan Xin, the president of Microsoft China region.

Previously, there was a low-level automotive team within Microsoft Cloud China, which belonged to the EC (Enterprise Commercial) department. After Su Tan's arrival, Microsoft established a separate automotive team for him, at the same level as the EC department, and the strategic height of the automotive business was raised.

It is said that the formation of the newly established automotive team has not been fully determined yet, but the AE positions (Account Executive) of the original automotive team have been significantly downsized.

Microsoft's cloud services have a long history of cooperation with OEMs and intelligent driving companies. In 2018, Microsoft cooperated with Volkswagen to develop the Volkswagen Cloud. In January 2021, Microsoft and General Motors' self-driving company Cruise reached a long-term strategic cooperation agreement. Microsoft and Honda, etc. jointly invested 2 billion US dollars (currently about 14.449 billion yuan) to provide support for Cruise using the cloud computing platform Azure.

In the nearly one year, two executives from IDG have joined cloud vendors. In early October 2023, the general manager of Baidu ASD (Intelligent Automobile Division), that is, Chu Ruison, who was Su Tan's superior at Baidu, took office as the No. 1 position in AWS Greater China. Not long ago, Chu Ruison made personnel adjustments to the AWS automotive industry line. The original person in charge,季军, left, and Zhao Yi, a former subordinate of Chu Ruison at Baidu, succeeded.
