China's Telecommunication Infrastructure Joint Construction and Sharing Initiative Gains Traction Internationally

TapTechNews July 15th news, from July 1 to 12, 2024, the meeting of the 15th Study Group (ITU-TSG15) of the International Telecommunication Union was held in Montreal, Canada.

At the meeting, the standard for jointly building and sharing telecommunication infrastructure L.nis Practical considerations for network infrastructure sharing led by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (referred to as China Academy of ICT), with the support of many countries such as Japan, India, Cameroon, Rwanda, Central African Republic, Haiti, Ukraine, etc., successfully obtained approval for establishment.

According to the China Academy of ICT, the joint construction and sharing of telecommunication infrastructure is an important measure to promote intensive utilization of resources, reduce the cost of network construction, and accelerate the development of network construction. Since 2008, when the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission jointly promoted the work of jointly building and sharing telecommunication infrastructure, China's basic telecommunication enterprises have strengthened network co-construction and facility sharing, building the world's largest 5G and fiber optic broadband network, and the penetration rate of the fiber optic network exceeds 96%, and both the network scale and the population penetration rate lead the major countries and regions in the world.

The joint construction and sharing of telecommunication infrastructure is of great significance for eliminating the global digital divide and enabling all human beings to enjoy the convenience of information technology development. In this meeting, the issue of joint construction and sharing received key attention from many developing countries in Asia and Africa, and many representatives put forward the demands for carrying out standardized research on the joint construction and sharing of telecommunication infrastructure, sharing typical experience and practices, and supporting developing countries to accelerate network construction, and gave full support to the project proposed by the China Academy of ICT.

According to TapTechNews' report in May 2023, 14 departments jointly issued an implementation opinion, proposing that by 2025, the working mechanism of jointly building and sharing telecommunication infrastructure will be continuously improved, and the construction environment of the dual gigabit network will be further optimized.
