Beijing Opens First High-Speed Rail Station for Autonomous Driving Tests

On May 15th, according to the official account of 'Beijing Yizhuang', the Beijing Municipal High-Level Autonomous Driving Office issued a notice on the test roads and test areas of autonomous driving vehicles in the policy pilot area, specifying the autonomous driving test range from the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone to Beijing South Station.

With the expansion of Beijing's high-level autonomous driving demonstration area to stage 3.0, a new scenario has been unlocked, and Beijing's first high-speed rail station for autonomous driving tests is officially open.

The Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone stated that Beijing South Station is a modern large-scale comprehensive transportation hub integrating railways, subways, urban railways, buses, taxis, etc. With a daily passenger flow of nearly 300,000 people, the station has complete supporting facilities and features smart parking, providing good conditions for autonomous driving landing.

The demonstration area, together with the Municipal Traffic Management Bureau, Municipal Urban Management Committee, ShouFa Group, and other relevant management units, based on comprehensive consideration of the location traffic conditions and the needs of the citizens, finally established two one-way driving distances of 32 kilometers and 58.6 kilometers respectively for the two autonomous driving test roads, passing through Bodalu-Nan Si Huan-Majia Bao West Road, Nan Wu Huan-Jing Kai Expressway-Nan San Huan and the Third Ring Road service road, arriving at Beijing South Station. At the same time, a surrounding 2.2 square kilometers test supporting area has been designated, and autonomous driving dedicated parking spaces have been arranged in the multi-story parking building at Beijing South Station.

TapTechNews learned that the 'five stations and two airports' connection is a key scene created in the construction of the expansion of the demonstration area to stage 3.0, including Beijing South Station, Fengtai Station, Chaoyang Station, Qinghe Station, and the City Sub-Center Station as well as the Daxing International Airport and Capital International Airport.

Currently, Daxing Airport has opened regular autonomous driving connections, with 40 vehicles from four companies including Luobu Yunli, Xiaoma Zhixing, Wenyuan Zhixing, and Antu Zhixing, with a total test mileage exceeding 220,000 kilometers.

Next, the demonstration area will work with relevant companies to promote the road test of autonomous driving vehicles with qualifications for highway testing in the policy pilot area. It is expected to provide new connection options for passengers by the end of the year.

By then, passengers can make reservations through the enterprise travel service App, get on and off at any autonomous driving connection point in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, and travel to and from Beijing South Station along the designated connection route.
