China Unicom to Stop 5G Communication Shell Business on Its App

According to TapTechNews on May 30, China Unicom released an announcement in the eSIM section of its app, stating that from June 12, 2024, the China Unicom App will no longer support handling 5G communication shell business.

TapTechNews found that in 2023, Digital Source Technology released a 5G communication shell adapted to the Huawei P60 series of mobile phones. This product realizes the upgrade from 4G to 5G of the mobile phone network through the embedded eSIM chip and 5G modem in the mobile phone case, and no relevant new products have been launched since then.

When using the 5G communication shell, users need to activate the eSIM service with the operator, and the eSIM service fee is 10 yuan per month. At the same time, the mobile phone's main card and the eSIM network signal of the 5G communication shell are combined into one card and displayed in the mobile phone signal bar.
