TapTechNews August 22nd news, the MetaQuest2 headset now supports multi-modal input, making it consistent with the functions of Quest3 and QuestPro.
Since February this year, Quest3 and QuestPro have supported simultaneous tracking of hands and controllers, and Meta calls this feature multi-modal. Although Quest2 also supports multi-modal, but previously it was only limited to using the Pro controller instead of the default Touch controller.
TapTechNews noticed that with the release of MetaXRCoreSDK v68, the multi-modal mode now also supports the default Touch controller of Quest2.
Previously, users could switch between the hand tracking and controller modes, but there was a delay between mode switches, and in the hand tracking mode, the controller would disappear and stop tracking. In the multi-modal mode, the device can track both hands and controllers simultaneously.
It should be noted that multi-modal input cannot be used simultaneously with some other functions, such as Inside-OutBodyTracking, the FastMotionMode and WideMotionMode of hand tracking, and tracking the keyboard. Developers must make a choice between multi-modal and these functions.
However, as of now, hardly any Quest applications support multi-modal input.
