China-Europe Freight Trains Cumulative Runs Exceed 90,000 with Growing Transport Volume

TapTechNews May 26th news, the X8157 China-Europe freight train (Xi'an - Malaszewicze) departed from Xi'an International Port Station at 8:40 yesterday (May 25th), and by now, the cumulative number of China-Europe freight trains has exceeded 90,000, with more than 8.7 million TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) of goods sent and a value of over 380 billion US dollars.

The 'China-Europe freight train' is organized by the China Railway Corporation and operates regularly according to fixed train numbers, routes, schedules, and whole journey operation times. It is a container and other railway international combined transport trains running between China and Europe and countries participating in the 'Belt and Road Initiative', with advantages such as convenience, speed, safety, stability, and green economy. The number of operations has maintained a growth trend.

TapTechNews inquiries found that from 2016 to 2023, the annual number of China-Europe freight trains increased from 1,702 to over 17,000, an increase of nearly 10 times, with an average annual growth rate of 39.5%. The time required for 10,000 operations has been shortened from 90 months at the beginning of operation to 7 months now.

Since May 2020, the China-Europe freight train has continuously maintained more than 1,000 monthly operations for 48 consecutive months. The annual transported goods value of the China-Europe freight train has increased from 8 billion US dollars in 2016 to 56.7 billion US dollars in 2023.

The types of goods have gradually expanded from IT products such as notebook computers and printers in the early days of operation to 53 major categories and more than 50,000 kinds such as clothing, shoes and hats, automobiles and accessories, daily necessities, food, wood, furniture, chemicals, and mechanical equipment.

Since 2023, China's new energy vehicles, lithium-ion battery products, and photovoltaic products have become new growth points in the transport volume of the China-Europe freight train. Currently, the comprehensive heavy container rate of the China-Europe freight train is stable at 100%.
