Arm Reportedly Approaches Intel for Possible Acquisition, But Denied

TapTechNews September 27th news, according to a report by Bloomberg today, Arm has approached Intel regarding a possible acquisition of Intel's product division, but was informed that the business is not for sale.

A source quoted in the report said that Arm had high-level contacts with Intel, but did not show interest in Intel's manufacturing business. The report did not mention any financial details nor did it indicate whether the negotiations are still ongoing or have been abandoned.

Both Arm and Intel refused to comment on the report.

Intel currently has two main divisions: one is the product division that sells PC, server and network equipment chips, and the other is the manufacturing division that operates factories.

Most of Arm's revenue comes from selling smartphone chip designs, but its CEO Rene Haas has been seeking to expand its business scope, including entering the PC and server fields.

Intel was once the world's largest chipmaker, but has been on a downward trend for many years, and in 2024 it has even accelerated its decline. According to TapTechNews' earlier report this month, there is news that Qualcomm is interested in acquiring Intel, which has attracted industry-wide attention. If the deal can be successfully completed, it will be one of the largest and most profound market-impacting deals in recent years.

However, TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is not optimistic about the deal between Qualcomm and Intel, and says that Qualcomm's motivation to acquire Intel is not strong, and if it happens, it may be a disaster for Qualcomm.
