iPhone 15 Pro Can Record Spatial Videos

TapTechNews, June 19th. iPhones 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max running iOS 17.2 or later can record spatial videos and support playback on devices such as Apple VisionPro.

Previously, spatial video recording was limited to Apple's native Camera App, but starting from iOS 18, third-party apps can offer this function as well.

At last week's WWDC 2024 Developer Conference coding seminar, Apple disclosed that they have released an API that allows developers to add spatial video recording capabilities in any app. Apple stated that this API is based on the existing camera framework and is relatively easy to implement.

It is understood that when recording spatial videos, the main camera and ultra-wide-angle camera of the iPhone 15 Pro series will work simultaneously, and the content recorded by the two cameras will be merged into a spatial video file.

Previously, there were rumors that in addition to the two models of the iPhone 16 Pro series, the regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will also support spatial video recording capabilities because the rear cameras of these two models will also be arranged vertically.

TapTechNews reminds that to watch spatial videos with a 3D depth-of-field effect, you also need to have a VisionPro head-mounted display, because such videos can only be played in a normal 2D format on the iPhone.
