Ford Recalls Select Models in China Including Edge L, Mustang Mach-E, and Lincoln Vehicles

TapTechNews reports on May 11 that Changan Ford has filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the Regulations on the Recall of Defective Auto Products and its implementation rules. The following vehicles are being recalled:

Effective immediately, a recall of some Edge L vehicles manufactured between August 1, 2022, and August 2, 2023, totaling 14,883 units.

The recalled vehicles may have an electronic parking brake motor short circuit due to manufacturing issues, posing a safety risk as the parking brake might fail to engage or release.

This recall campaign is initiated following a defect investigation by the State Administration for Market Regulation. Under the investigation's influence, Changan Ford will replace the electronic parking brake motor at no cost to owners through authorized dealers to mitigate the safety concerns.

Emergency measures include advising owners to shift their vehicle into park and contact a nearby authorized dealer for inspection and repair should the electronic parking brake system fail.

Starting July 1, 2024, a recall for some Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles produced between July 27, 2021, and April 6, 2022, totaling 398 units.

This recall stems from potential overheating issues with the main relay of the high voltage distribution box in the power battery due to design and part discrepancies, which can cause the relay to stick or disconnect anomalously. In extreme cases, this may lead to the vehicle being unable to start or losing power during motion, representing a safety hazard.

Changan Ford will replace the power battery's high voltage distribution box for free and upgrade the power control module and battery control module software for vehicles in the recall through authorized dealers.

In another announcement sourced by TapTechNews, Ford Motor (China) Co., Ltd. has also registered a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation, effective immediately, for the following vehicles:

Recalling some imported Lincoln MKZ vehicles produced between March 2, 2015, and July 28, 2015, totaling 1,776 units.

The recalled vehicles may have door latch pawl spring tab housings that could break after prolonged use, preventing doors from locking, or causing doors to unlock while driving, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

Ford Motor (China) Co., Ltd. will delegate Lincoln brand authorized dealers to check the production date codes of the door latches. If found from a defective batch, all four door latches will be replaced free of charge to eliminate the safety risk.

This recall is an extension of a previous announcement made on February 5, 2021, regarding some imported Lincoln MKZ vehicles.

Finally, Ford Motor (China) Co., Ltd. will recall some domestically produced Lincoln Aviator vehicles manufactured between September 4, 2022, and August 2, 2023, totaling 9,397 units.

The recalled vehicles may have manufacturing defects in the electronic parking brake motor that could lead to a short circuit, posing a risk as the parking brake might fail to engage or release.

This recall campaign is conducted under a defect investigation by the State Administration for Market Regulation. Impacted by the investigation, Ford Motor (China) Co., Ltd. will replace the electronic parking brake motor at no cost through Lincoln brand authorized dealers to eliminate the safety risk.

Emergency measures advise owners, in the event the electronic parking brake system fails, to shift into park and contact a nearby authorized dealer for vehicle inspection and repair.
