The new car is essentially an elongated version of the three-door Cooper, upgrading the original four-seat layout to a more practical five-seat design. The rear seats are arranged in a regular pattern. Thanks to the lengthened body, the overall length of the new car reaches 158.7 inches (about 4036mm), which is an increase of 6.3 inches (about 160mm) compared to the three-door version, and is also 1.2 inches (about 31mm) longer than the old five-door version. This results in a 1.5-inch (about 38mm) increase in rear legroom and the luggage compartment capacity also increases to 9.7 cu ft (about 275L), an increase of 2.3 cu ft (about 65L).

In terms of power, the new MINI five-door fuel version continues to offer 1.5T and 2.0T engines for users to choose from. The MINI COOPER C version is equipped with a 1.5T three-cylinder petrol engine with a maximum power of 115 kW and uses front-wheel drive, and the 0-60 mph acceleration time is 8.0 seconds. The MINI COOPER S is equipped with a 2.0T four-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 150 kW and a peak torque of 300 N·m, and the 0-60 mph acceleration is 6.8 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds slower than the three-door Cooper S.

It is worth noting that the new Cooper will only offer an automatic transmission as MINI has cancelled the choice of manual transmission last year.

TapTechNews noticed that, unlike the three-door version, the five-door model will not offer a pure electric version. The role of the pure electric five-door hatchback will be replaced by the Aceman crossover, which shares the same platform as the pure electric three-door Cooper.

The starting price of the new car is £24,050, and the starting price of the Cooper S is £28,450. Deliveries in the UK market will start in August. The five-door model will be produced together with the petrol version of the three-door model at MINI's Oxford factory, which is gradually being renovated to start producing pure electric Cooper and Aceman models in 2026.

It is also worth mentioning that the release of the five-door model also means the end of the tenure of MINI's CEO, Stefanie Wurst, and her successor will be Stefan Richmann, the head of corp orate strategy at the BMW Group.
