TapTechNews reported in June that the world's first AI model beauty pageant WAICAs has a total prize pool of £16,000 (currently about 148,000 yuan), and more than 1,500 AI characters and 10,000 AI team members from around the world participated.

The champion of this beauty pageant was won by KenzaLayli, which is an AI beauty set from Morocco and currently has more than 200,000 followers on Instagram and 45,000 followers on TikTok.

Although the beauty pageant has ended, the controversy about the competition has not ended there.

Dr. Sasha Luccioni, a researcher at HuggingFaceAI, said: This is another stepping stone on the path of AI objectifying women. As a woman working in this field, I'm not surprised, but also disappointed.

Dr. Luccioni said:

In the obviously underdiversified field of AI, it is not surprising to use AI to generate the image of the ideal woman.

However, this beauty pageant is not to show the actual role of AI, but more like enhancing the ability of the creators, that is, redefining the unrealistic standard of beauty.

Just thinking about the harm to girls' self-image makes me shudder. Barbie dolls have caused enough problems already, and the design of Barbie dolls doesn't even look like a real person.

When the unrealistic standard of women is socially recognized, girls will form a distorted social concept, and they will find that they don't meet the standard in many aspects when looking in the mirror, and the phenomenon of using counterfeit and inferior skin care products, eating disorders and body distortion among teenagers has increased significantly.
