Apple's VisionPro Promoting Ecosystem but Facing Challenges in Application Growth

TapTechNews July 13th, the Financial Times (FT) released a blog post yesterday, stating that Apple is sparing no effort to promote the VisionPro head-mounted display ecosystem and attract more visionOS developers, and actively exploring the 'killer application'.

Small number of applications

Apple's AppStore now offers more than 2,000 applications specifically designed for AppleVisionPro, with over 1.5 million compatible iOS and iPadOS applications; and more applications that seamlessly collaborate on a Mac using MacVirtualDisplay.

The number of VisionPro applications is relatively small compared to the early stages of the iPhone and iPad. Apple's iPhone had more than 10,000 applications by the end of 2008; while Apple's iPad had more than 20,000 applications by the middle of 2010.

Slow application growth

In addition, the growth of VisionPro applications is also relatively slow. TapTechNews cited the views of analysts, believing that the reasons for this are as follows:

The product pricing of $3,500 (TapTechNews note: currently about 25,441 RMB) limits the potential user group. Therefore, it has less appeal to developers compared to platforms with billions of users.

The sales of VisionPro head-mounted display are lower than expected.

Analyst Francisco-Geronimo said: 'The success of VisionPro, regardless of price, will ultimately depend on the content provided.'

Exploring the 'killer application'

Apple has expanded the sales market of VisionPro, but lacks a 'killer application' to convince customers to pay more than $3,500 (starting from 29,999 RMB in China) for an unproven new product, which is regarded as a problem faced by Apple.

Although the application growth slows down, some developers are still optimistic about the future of VisionPro: believing that this is Apple's product after all, and Apple always finds a way.

They believe that this device has taken a big step forward in the VR field and may become mainstream in the next few years, especially with the news that Apple is brewing a lower-priced version.
