Smartone to Cease Mobile Service in Macau, CTM to Take Over

TapTechNews August 24th news, the operator Smartone announced the cessation of providing mobile communication services in Macau. The company has currently reached an agreement with another operator, CTM. The services within the remaining contract period of Smartone (Macau) customers will be continuously provided by CTM, and relevant customers can also choose other service plans provided by CTM.

TapTechNews learned that the Macau regional government opened public telecommunication network services in 2002, breaking the monopoly situation of CTM in telecommunication services, and the operator Smartone (Macau) was established in 2009 and had its license renewed until June 2025. After the Smartone (Macau) exits, there are currently only three telecommunications operators in Macau, namely CTM, 3 (Macau), and China Telecom.

Smartone stated that the reason they gave up providing mobile communication services in Macau is for business considerations. Currently, the company has submitted an application to the Macau Post and Telecommunications Bureau to give up the 4G license, and the subsequent related services will be provided by CTM. Currently, users can go to the CTM store to replace the SIM card, and the specific replacement period ends from now until October 31st.
