Tesla's FSD in China Updates and Developments

TapTechNews, June 14. Lu Sen, the director of the Data Department of the Management Committee of Shanghai Lingang New Area, disclosed that Nanhui New City is promoting the landing pilot of fully automated driving (FSD) for 10 Tesla vehicles.

Although Tesla's FSD has not been pushed in the Chinese market yet, when the Model 3 was launched, FSD was already sold with the car at a price of $10,000 (TapTechNews note: currently about 64,000 yuan), and the subscription price of FSD may be around $150 (about 1,090 yuan) per month.

Reuters also said at the end of May that Tesla China is preparing to file its FSD function with the relevant authorities in order to push this function this year. Tesla is striving to introduce FSD V12 into China, and relevant words have appeared in the in-vehicle system of Tesla China employees last month.

Tesla is also considering licensing FSD to other Chinese auto manufacturers, and the sale of FSD in China will open up a new source of income for Tesla. Due to the competition of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, Tesla's sales in China decreased by 7.6% from January to April 2024.

On April 28, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers and the National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China released the Notice on the Detection Status of 4 Safety Requirements for Automobile Data Processing (First Batch), which mentioned that all the models produced by Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory comply with the compliance requirements and is the only foreign-funded enterprise that meets the compliance requirements.
