TapTechNews May 15th - Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg seems to have taken a liking to a hip-hop style of dressing, but is this 'hip-hop Zuckerberg' style really suitable for him?
On May 14th, Zuckerberg celebrated his 40th birthday with family and friends. Photos showed Zuckerberg dressed in a hip-hop style outfit, including a gold chain and an oversized t-shirt.
Thank you for the first 40 years of my life! Priscilla threw a small party for me and re-created some of the places from my early life, Zuckerberg wrote on an Instagram post, which included multiple photos from the birthday party organized by his wife Priscilla Chan.
In addition to the gold chain, the billionaire's black shirt bore a Latin phrase Carthagodelendaest. This phrase is usually associated with the Roman politician Cato the Elder, who was said to end his speeches with this phrase as a rallying cry.
In fact, as early as 2011 when Google launched its social media platform GooglePlus, Zuckerberg quoted this phrase. Zuckerberg declared a 'lockdown' and mobilized his employees to fight against this competitor's social network. According to an excerpt from the book 'Chaos Monkeys' written by a former Facebook employee, Zuckerberg said at the time: You know, one of my favorite Roman orators used to end every speech with 'Carthagodelendaest'. 'Carthage must be destroyed'. I don't know why, but I thought of that now.
This Latin-inscribed shirt also aligns with Zuckerberg's personal interests. Zuckerberg has a long-standing interest in the Roman Empire and studied Latin in high school. He even named his three daughters after Roman emperors: Maxima, August and Aurelia.
It is worth noting that Zuckerberg's wife Chan also wore a matching hip-hop attire - a white t-shirt and a pair of gold chains.

TapTechNews noted that this is not the first time Zuckerberg has worn hip-hop style clothing. On April 13th, he wore a similar outfit when attending the UFC300 fight with his wife.
A week later on April 18th, Zuckerberg made a similar fashion choice when announcing Meta's latest artificial intelligence products. This time, Zuckerberg wore a necklace and paired it with a navy blue t-shirt.
In addition to experimenting with bold clothing styles, Zuckerberg has also been practicing mixed martial arts (MMA) during the pandemic, and has built up a muscular physique.
When Zuckerberg visited Japan earlier this year, he did not wear his iconic gray t-shirt and hoodie, but instead opted for a brown cashmere jacket. Later, during a meeting with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang in March, he even exchanged jackets with Huang.
