1982 Commodore 64 Computers Embrace AI, Generating 64x64 Pixel Art in 20 Minutes

TapTechNews May 11 news, developer and hobbyist Nick Bild recently designed a generative AI tool for the 1982 8-bit home computer, Commodore 64 (also known as C64, CBM64 or VIC-64 in Sweden), enabling this vintage computer to create 64x64 resolution sprites.

Bild created this AI tool to inspire gaming design concepts and explore advanced AI implementations in real life.

The Commodore 64 holds the Guinness World Record for the best-selling single computer model of all time, with sales estimated between 10 to 17 million units.

Given the age of this iconic hardware, although it takes 90 iterations and 20 minutes to produce the final image, the performance is quite remarkable.
