How to Extend uBlockOrigin Ad Blocker Support on Windows 10/11 with Registry Modification

TapTechNews August 16th news, the tech media NeoWin today (August 16th) posted a blog sharing the registry modification method to extend the support of Google Chrome browser and Microsoft Edge browser for uBlockOrigin ad blocker on Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems.

For the news that Chromium-based browsers (including Chrome and Edge) no longer support the uBlockOrigin ad blocker, you can refer to TapTechNews' previous reports.

Users who want to continue using the uBlockOrigin ad blocker have two solutions. One is to switch to the Firefox browser, and Mozilla officially should not stop supporting ManifestV2 in the short term.

The other solution is to modify the registry and use the ExtensionManifestV2Availability policy designed specifically for enterprises to extend the support for MV2 add-ons.

TapTechNews note: This policy applies to Windows, macOS, and Linux, and after enabling it can extend the support years of ManifestV2 to June 2025.

Chrome browser requires version 110 and above, while Edge browser requires version 123 and above.

Operation steps:

1. Click the start menu, enter regedit and then open the registry editor.

2. Open theComputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome path.

3. Right-click the Chrome browser folder on the left side or the blank area on the right side, and choose to create a DWORD (32-BitValue).

4. Name it ExtensionManifestV2Availability, and then click Enter.

5. Right-click the newly created ExtensionManifestV2Availability and then click Modify, set the hexadecimal value to 2, and then click OK.

6. After completion, open the Chrome browser, paste chrome://policy in the URL address bar, and then click Enter to check if the work is completed.
