China's CGN Taipingling Nuclear Power Project Completion of Thermal Test and Future Outlook

TapTechNews September 16th news, according to the China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) today's news, at 10:00 am on September 15th, Unit 1 of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Station of CGN completed the drainage of the primary circuit, indicating the successful completion of the thermal performance test (referred to as thermal test) of the unit, laying the foundation for subsequent fuel loading, grid connection and power generation and other works.

According to CGN's introduction, the purpose of the thermal test is to conduct various actual working condition tests in the entire pressure and temperature range from the reactor pressure vessel capping to the hot shutdown state before core fuel loading, to verify the functions and responses of the nuclear steam supply system equipment and systems, and to validate the periodic tests and operation procedures, while enabling the operators to further familiarize themselves with the operation of the power plant through the test process to ensure nuclear safety without fail.

TapTechNews found out through querying public information that the Taipingling Nuclear Power of CGN is the first ecological nuclear power construction demonstration project in the country. On the basis of the previous projects, dozens of adjustments and optimizations such as main parameter optimization, layout optimization of the in-containment refueling water tank of the containment, and independent design of the steam generator have been made, and the localization application of major equipment such as the steam generator, the turbine control system platform, the pressurizer spray valve, and the main steam safety valve has been carried out for the first time, accumulating key technical indicators and engineering experience for the batch construction of CGN's Hualong One.

The Taipingling Nuclear Power Project of CGN is expected to be put into operation and generate electricity in 2025. It is the first Hualong One independent third-generation nuclear power project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, located in Huangbu Town, Huidong County, Guangdong Province. The overall plan is to build 6 Hualong One units. After it is completed and put into operation, the project will supply more than 50 billion kWh of electricity annually, reduce the consumption of raw coal by about 15.12 million tons annually, reduce the carbon dioxide emissions to the environment by about 41.6 million tons annually. The environmental protection benefit is equivalent to afforestation of nearly 113,000 hectares, creating a green GDP of more than 20 billion yuan.
