Toshiba Unveils New Generation S300Pro Surveillance Hard Drive with Enhanced Features

TapTechNews August 13th news, Toshiba released a new generation of S300Pro surveillance mechanical hard drives for large-scale video surveillance systems yesterday Beijing time. The most obvious difference from the previous generation S300Pro is that the cache capacity doubles from 256 MiB to 512 MiB.

Toshiba's new generation S300Pro surveillance mechanical hard drive is a 7200 rpm CMR air disk, supports video streams from up to 64 high-definition (HD) cameras, and can work around the clock 24×7, providing four capacity options of 4 TB, 6 TB, 8 TB, and 10 TB.

Compared to the previous generation S300Pro, the new S300Pro has achieved improvements in multiple parameter indicators:

MTBF mean time between failures: extended from 1 million hours to 1.2 million hours;

Maximum continuous transfer speed: increased from up to 248 MB/s to 281 MB/s (TapTechNews note: approximately 268 MiB/s);

Annual workload: increased from 180 TB to 300 TB;

Unrecoverable error rate: decreased from 1×10-14 to 1×10-15;

Power consumption: Taking the largest 10 TB capacity as an example, the typical value of operating power consumption decreased from 9.48 W to 9.07 W, a reduction of 4.3%.
