Sam's Club Introduces AI Entrance Recognition Technology for Receipt Validation

TapTechNews May 14th - When shopping in large supermarkets, you may notice that occasionally, when purchasing goods at the supermarket, you need to show the receipt to the store staff for inspection. However, at CES 2024, Sam's Club showcased a technology that uses AI entrance recognition to verify the contents of the buyer's shopping cart for 'receipt validation,' claiming to significantly reduce the queue at the store exit.

Sam's Club recently released a press release, announcing that after experimenting in ten stores in North America in the first quarter, the technology significantly reduced the store congestion and shortened the customer's time to leave the store by 23%. Based on this, Sam's Club plans to introduce this AI entrance recognition device in all 600 branches across the United States this year.

It is reported that this AI entrance recognition device mainly uses cameras and the user's previously entered facial information to detect whether the items in the user's shopping cart match the items in the checkout system. As a result, customers can leave directly with the shopping cart after checkout, making the exit ticket inspection process more smooth than before.
