VMware Offers Free Pro Applications for Personal Use After Broadcom Acquisition

TapTechNews reported on May 15 that Broadcom completed a $69 billion acquisition of VMware in November 2023. Following the merger, VMware announced the cancellation of perpetual licenses for cloud services, switching to a subscription model, which has sparked user dissatisfaction. In addition, VMware has recently made a small but sincere concession: WorkstationPro and FusionPro products will now be free for personal use. WorkstationPro is available for Windows or Linux users, while FusionPro is for Mac computers with Intel CPU or Apple M-series processors. The Pro applications will offer two licensing modes: free for personal use and paid commercial subscription for enterprises and organizations. Users can choose whether to subscribe, and VMware emphasizes that there are no functional differences between the two versions, with the only visible difference being a reminder in the free version that the product is for personal use only. Users can download and use VMware software for free by registering a Broadcom account at https://support.broadcom.com/. Be sure to select the ForPersonalUser version when downloading.
