Update on Micro-Drama Filing Rules on Various Platforms

TapTechNews noticed that recently various platforms have released relevant detailed rules about the filing of short dramas. On May 17, the WeChat platform released a new regulation for adjusting the micro-drama filing mechanism. Starting from May 27 this year, micro-dramas with a production cost of less than $46,500 need to submit a cost allocation ratio report and obtain a filing number after review. If a drama that has already passed the review needs to be changed, it needs to comply with the regulations or submit an application.

Douyin recently issued a notice to short drama developers and authors. Before May 30, all short dramas that have been aired online need to prepare materials according to the template. The platform opened the upload entrance on May 17 and May 23. For new short dramas launched after June 1, when uploading to the Douyin platform, the following materials need to be filled in, including the cost allocation ratio situation report form and the salary commitment letter, and then upload the materials to Douyin and then the platform will uniformly file with the provincial radio and television.

Kuaishou's announcement stated that from June 1, micro-drama works without a filing number are prohibited from being operated and promoted on the platform. The platform will review the micro-drama works operating on the platform from June 1. Developers must not use technical means to avoid/resist the relevant requirements, otherwise, depending on the severity of the problem, the most severe measure of blocking the mini-program will be taken for processing. Existing micro-drama mini-program developers need to complete the access work of the review system before May 30. Delayed access will affect the normal operation of the mini-program.
