IBM Updates WatsonxCodeAssistantforZ with New Function

TapTechNews May 22nd news, IBM has recently updated its AI programming assistant, WatsonxCodeAssistantforZ, by adding a 'ead code and write comments' function. It can help maintainers understand the COBOL language used in mainframes through a series of real-time comments, facilitating the maintenance of these 'ancient codes'.

IBM Updates WatsonxCodeAssistantforZ with New Function_0

It is reported that IBM launched the WatsonxCodeAssistantforZ tool in the middle of 2023, aiming to help maintainers convert COBOL programs on IBM Z mainframes to the more popular Java language, thereby accelerating the'retirement' process of'mainframes'.

TapTechNews learned that since the COBOL language can be traced back to 1959 and there is a certain lack of relevant program documentation, the main purpose of the newly added code comment function of WatsonxCodeAssistantforZ this time is to let maintainers understand the logic behind these 'ancient codes' and help maintainers start the Java conversion process.

IBM plans to fully launch the WatsonxCodeAssistantforZ tool in June this year and previews that users will also be able to deploy the WatsonxCodeAssistantforZ environment on the local terminal at that time, and the relevant language can be converted into Java code with comments without having to upload the existing COBOL code to the cloud, which is convenient for use in some occasions where network access is not convenient.
