DreamWorks Animation Releases OpenMoonRay 1.6 with Support for Apple Silicon

TapTechNews July 31st news, in 2022, DreamWorks Animation announced the release of the MoonRay renderer in the form of open-source software. This renderer has been used in movies such as 'How to Train Your Dragon 3', 'The Bad Guys', and 'Puss in Boots', and the open-source version is named OpenMoonRay.

OpenMoonRay version 1.6 update was released on July 30th, adding initial support for Apple's Apple Silicon processors, including the use of Apple's Metal API for acceleration.

OpenMoonRay tools, Hydra rendering plug-ins, and other functions can now run on Apple Silicon M1/M2/M3/M4 and require macOS 14 or later.

Some of the new features added in OpenMoonRay 1.6 include adaptive light sampling, adding the Intel Open Image Denoise (OIDN) engine in the hdMoonray denoiser, multi-threaded GPU access, improved CPU scheduling control, and various other rendering enhancements.
