Oracle Extends Java Support and Releases Roadmap to 2032

TapTechNews May 16th - Oracle has released the JavaSE 2024 spring roadmap, confirming that official support for Java/JDK 11 has been extended to January 2032, allowing customers to continue receiving updates for at least eight years.

The official support for JavaSE 8 and JavaSE 11 on the Solaris operating system has also been extended to December 2030 and January 2032, respectively. This means that Java support on Solaris has been extended by six years compared to the date announced in 2019.

Oracle also announced that the license for JDK 17, released in September 2021, will expire soon. Updates for Oracle JDK 17 released after September 2024 are planned to be provided under the JavaSE OTN license, which is the same license used for Java 8 and Java 11. Users who wish to continue using the relaxed NFTC license terms are advised to migrate to Oracle JDK 21.

According to previous reports from TapTechNews, analysis firm NewRelic recently stated that Java 17 has maintained its status as the leading LTS version since surpassing Java 11 in September 2018, with 35% of applications currently using this version. Oracle's JDK remains the leader with a 21% market share.
