Earlier this month, Margrethe Vestager, the EU Commissioner for Competition Affairs, said in an interview with foreign media that Apple faced many very serious problems in terms of compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) of Europe.

The European Commission launched an investigation against Apple in March this year to assess whether the adjustments Apple has made to the EU market comply with DMA regulations. The DMA regulations require Apple to provide developers with a third-party app store and not charge fees for the App Store.

Apple deployed relevant adjustment measures in the iOS 17.4 update. However, after the annual installation of the application exceeds 1 million times, Apple needs to charge an additional core technology fee of 0.50 euros (currently about 3.90 yuan) for each new download.

According to a previous report by TapTechNews, Vestager believes in the interview that Apple's core technology fee does not meet the requirements of DMA. We found a lot of problems in the investigation of Apple's new regulations, and the problems are alarming, the severity exceeds our expectations, and it is clearly non-compliant. Apple's new regulations in Europe do not meet the expectations of the European people for this company.

In addition, Apple announced last Friday that due to regulatory issues, when its upcoming iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia are released this autumn, EU users will not be able to use Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring, and SharePlay screen sharing functions.
