China Develops Fully Domestic PorcineWENS100K Gene Chip, Breaking Foreign Monopoly

TapTechNews September 14th news, according to the official WeChat public account of Wen's Group, the enterprise cooperated with Suzhou Lasuo Bio and successfully developed a new generation of fully domestic solid-phase pig breeding gene chip PorcineWENS100K on the 12th of this month.

Wen's Group stated that the design, production, and manufacturing links of the PorcineWENS100K gene chip are 100% completed in China, with complete domestic independent intellectual property rights. The core technical indicators such as the detection rate and consistency of the product have reached the world's leading level, fully realizing domestic substitution.

The PorcineWENS100K belongs to the Zhongxin No. 1 series products of China's first independently owned domestic pig breeding gene chip. It was created on the basis of the previous PorcineWENS55K gene chip. The number of genomic loci on the chip has increased from the previous 56,380 SNPs to 95,812 SNPs, scaling up from the regular 55K level to the 100K level.

Breeding gene chips are the key tools for genomic selection, and high-density solid-phase gene chips have the characteristics of high throughput, high accuracy, high stability, and flexible customization, which is the gold standard technology in international molecular breeding detection.

TapTechNews learned that China has previously made breakthroughs in the design of solid-phase gene chips, but the chip dotting technology was still monopolized by two American companies at high prices until recently, resulting in a large gap between the molecular detection penetration rate of China's breeding industry and that of developed countries, hindering the improvement of China's biological breeding scientific and technological innovation capabilities.

Wen's Group, Lasuo Bio, and South China Agricultural University jointly stated that the development of the PorcineWENS100K gene chip marks another major breakthrough in China's attack on key core technologies in biological breeding. The solid-phase chip, an important underlying tool for molecular breeding, will no longer be restricted by foreign enterprises.

This not only fills the last piece of the map of the independently controllable domestic breeding system, but also will drive a significant decrease in the cost of molecular breeding detection and a significant increase in detection efficiency.

Wen's Group and Lasuo Bio will jointly promote the industrial application of domestic solid-phase pig breeding chips in the future.
