The defendant Liu, an employee of a certain communication group company, and Xiang, together with the defendant Wang stole more than 3,400 household broadband accounts, set up private base stations to sell traffic and were sentenced.
In November 2023, the staff found that there was a batch of broadband service accounts (5055) with extremely large background traffic. Through technical analysis, it was basically determined that others stole broadband after screening out that there were multiple accounts logged on under 57 PON ports.
After the investigation by the company's internal discipline department, the defendant Liu confessed his basic criminal facts to the company, and the company reported to the public security organ, and then the public security organ arrested Liu, Wang, Xiang and other people involved in the case.
Wang found that the short-video and live-broadcast business was booming, and all platforms had a huge demand for traffic. Then the three people through stealing the dormant account traffic of household broadband and integrating it, diverting it to the privately built base station, and selling traffic to the live-broadcast platform to make a profit.
Liu was responsible for the base station site selection and remote control by phone; Xiang used his position convenience to obtain the usage situation of idle customers' traffic from the background and sent the user information and background data to Wang in charge of technology; Wang was responsible for stealing the traffic and selling it for profit.
TapTechNews noted that after trial and verification, from August 2022 to the occurrence of the case, the three defendants through the above-mentioned methods altogether illegally obtained RMB 794,000. The People's Court of Yuhua District sentenced the three to prison terms and fines for duty encroachment, and ordered to return the economic losses of the victimized unit.
