TOM Mail in China to Stop Free Service in 2024, Linked to TOM Group's Performance

TapTechNews August 12th news, TOM Mail claims to be one of the earliest email service providers in China, with 21 years of operating experience.

The company sent a notification email to users today stating that due to mailbox business adjustment, it will stop the free mailbox service on September 13, 2024, and the mailbox account will not be able to log in after September 27, 2024.

During this period, users can log in to mail.tom.com to back up important emails. After September 27, 2024, the official will clear the emails in the mailbox.

TapTechNews learned from the official website of TOM Group that TOM Mail is an online mailbox launched by TOM Group Company since 1998, and TOM Group is a joint investment enterprise of Hutchison Whampoa and Cheung Kong Holdings, behind which is the investment of Li Ka-shing.

TOM Mail officially went online and faced users in March 1998. In December 2017, TOM Mail announced that the number of users of its 7 mailbox sub-brands (tom.com free mail, 163.netVIP, vip.tom.comVIP, professional enterprise mail, free mail as you like) has reached hundreds of millions.

At present, TOM Mail also has paid mailbox services such as VIP mailbox, and the lowest package pricing of VIP business mail is $2.25 per month.

On August 5th, TOM Group released the interim results for the six months ended June 30, 2024. The consolidated revenue was HK$342 million (TapTechNews note: currently about 315 million yuan), a decrease of 9.59% year-on-year; the loss attributable to equity holders of the company was HK$145 million (currently about 133 million yuan), an increase of 53.8% year-on-year.
