TapTechNews learned from the official that this solar thermal energy storage power station is located in Guazhou, Gansu. It can not only generate electricity normally when there is sunlight, but also can store the excess solar energy with molten salt to realize stable and uninterrupted power output for 24 hours.

The solar thermal energy storage power station is set with two adjacent heat absorption towers and shares one steam turbine generator. Nearly 30,000 heliostats are installed under the towers, with a lighting area of 800,000 square meters. The power station uses these mirrors that track the rotation of the sun to focus the sunlight into the heat absorption towers to heat the molten salt, thereby driving the steam turbine to generate electricity.

After being put into operation and generating electricity by the end of this year, the solar thermal energy storage power station will serve as a basic regulating power source and form a multi-energy complementary clean energy base with a total installed capacity of 700,000 kilowatts with the surrounding photovoltaic and wind power. It will bundle and export green electric energy, and the annual power generation will reach 1.8 billion kWh, and about 1.53 million tons of carbon dioxide will be reduced.
