China's 'Jiaolong' Manned Submersible Embarks on 45-Day West Pacific Voyage

TapTechNews August 10th news, according to Xinhua News Agency, on the morning of August 10th (today), the 2024 West Pacific International Voyage scientific research team organized by the China Ocean Affairs Administration of the Ministry of Natural Resources and implemented by the National Deep Sea Base Management Center set sail from Qingdao, Shandong. The 'Jiaolong' manned submersible on the 'Deep Sea One' ship starts a 45-day offshore investigation.

'Deep Sea One' is the first manned submersible support mother ship in China, designed by the 708th Research Institute of CSSC, with a length of 90.2 meters, a molded width of 16.8 meters, a designed displacement of 4500 tons, and a cruising range of more than 12000 nautical miles.

Seamount is a typical deep-sea ecosystem and environment, containing the mystery of deep-sea life. TapTechNews learned that in this voyage, the 'Jiaolong' will conduct 18 dives in three operation areas in the West Pacific to investigate seamount biological groups and master the location, environmental characteristics and composition of the biological community of seamounts.

As the first international voyage under the 'Digital Deep Sea Typical Habitat' major scientific plan, the 'Jiaolong' will carry overseas scientists to dive for the first time. Chinese scientists will cooperate with 11 overseas scientists to carry out comprehensive investigations of marine biodiversity and the environment, and promote the conservation and sustainable use of deep-sea biodiversity.
