SVIEngineering Launches Armored Golf GTI
TapTechNews June 12th news, South African armored modification company SVIEngineering has launched the SVIAK47 Golf 8 GTI. As the name suggests, this is a Volkswagen Golf GTI that has been armored and reinforced, capable of withstanding the firepower of AK-47 assault rifles and protecting passengers from 7.62 x 39mm caliber bullets.
SVI company previously mainly provided armored modification services for off-road vehicles and SUVs, such as the Land Cruiser. However, in South Africa, the police force and private security teams prefer more flexible and rapidly accelerating Golf GTI and Golf R models. The upgrade plan launched by the SVI company this time has nicely balanced performance and protection.
The vehicle is equipped with 3.5mm thick armored steel plates and the armored protection level reaches B4+. And all windows have been upgraded to bulletproof glass, this kind of glass can resist four shots of AK-47 within 300mm square, but the disadvantage is that the windows cannot be opened, and only the cab window can be opened to about half the position. The vehicle rear uses a partition design to avoid armored transformation of the trunk door. At the same time, the rearview camera provides a panoramic view to facilitate the driver's observation of the road conditions behind. Since the appearance of Golf GTI and Golf R is almost the same, the 3.5mm armored steel plate can be used universally. The SVI company gave up lighter composite materials because steel is superior in terms of reliability.
It is worth mentioning that SVI also added armor to the fenders, which can protect the power system and extend the vehicle's running time as much as possible to help the driver escape the danger. However, the price for all these enhancements is an additional 750 pounds of weight. To deal with the increased weight, SVI has upgraded the front and rear suspension of the vehicle, but the specific way has not been disclosed.
