European Commission Requires YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok to Provide Info on Algorithms

TapTechNews October 2nd news, according to Reuters, the European Commission on Wednesday local time required YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok to provide information to understand the parameters used by their algorithms to recommend content to users, and the roles they play in amplifying some systemic risks, including issues related to mental health and protection of minors.

The European Commission said in a statement that technology companies must provide the required information by November 15th.

As of TapTechNews' posting, YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok have not responded.

The European Union passed the Artificial Intelligence Act (AIAct) in May this year and took effect in August, but most of the rules of this act need to wait until August 2, 2026 to take effect. In order to fill this gap, the European Union took the lead in launching the Artificial Intelligence Pact (AIPact), hoping that manufacturers in the form of voluntary to accelerate the implementation of relevant acts.

The first batch of the Artificial Intelligence Pact was signed by more than 100 companies, including OpenAI, Microsoft and Google, but it does not include Meta and Apple.
