State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Encourages Later EV Charging for Better Efficiency

TapTechNews August 24th news, State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power advocates electric vehicles to charge one hour later (TapTechNews note: valley electricity starts at 22:00 PM) and citizens who make an appointment to charge after 11 PM every day can get a red envelope reward of $1 to $5 while enjoying the valley electricity price.

Range of participation in the activity:

Users who have bound the smart 4G charging pile through Alipay - Car Life - Home Charging (currently supports some brand charging piles and is gradually increasing).

The 4G home charging pile must be in an online state to facilitate the statistics of the number of participations.

User participation activity registration path:

If the charging pile has already been successfully bound in Alipay - Car Life - Home Charging, you can click the activity at the top of this page to participate.

If the charging pile has not been bound in Alipay yet, you can click Alipay - Car Life - Home Charging, click Go to Bind, scan the QR code on the charging pile equipment, and after binding, you can register to participate.

State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power stated that due to the improvement of residents' living standards and changes in living habits, around 10 PM is still at the peak of residents' domestic electricity consumption. Coupled with the surge in the charging load of electric vehicles when the valley electricity starts at 22 PM, it is easy to cause heavy loads in the distribution area and bring pressure to the power grid. Therefore, setting the electric vehicle charging appointment time as late as after 11 PM and staggering it from the peak of residents' daily electricity consumption is conducive to improving the overall power utilization efficiency of the community.

As of the end of July, the number of personal charging piles charging after 11 PM in Zhejiang Province increased from nearly 40,000 to about 400,000 compared with May, and the proportion increased from less than 5% to nearly 40%, shifting the peak of the night charging load backward by about 500,000 kilowatts, which is equivalent to the load of about 450,000 air conditioners cooling simultaneously, effectively relieving the pressure on the power grid.
