Wang Yongzhi, male, was born on November 17, 1932 in Changtu County, Liaoning Province. He is an aerospace technology expert and one of the pioneers and academic and technical leaders of China's manned space program. He is a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Astronautics and an academician of the International Academy of Astronautics. He serves as a senior consultant of China's manned space program, the dean of the School of Aerospace Engineering of Tsinghua University, the director of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, the deputy director of the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Industry and the chief designer of the launch vehicle series and the surface-to-surface missile series, and the chief designer of the China's manned space program.

Wang Yongzhi was admitted to the Aeronautics Department of Tsinghua University in 1952 and graduated from the Missile Design major of the Moscow Aviation Institute in 1961. In 1992, he was elected an academician of the International Academy of Astronautics and a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Astronautics. In 1994, he was elected as one of the first batch of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In 2003, he won the National Highest Science and Technology Award. On May 4, 2010, the international permanent number 46669 asteroid was named Wang Yongzhi Star.

On June 12, 2017, Wang Yongzhi was selected into the first batch of candidate lists for the August 1st Medal. In September 2019, Wang Yongzhi was awarded the title of The Most Beautiful Striver.

Wang Yongzhi has long been committed to the overall design and development work of China's strategic missiles and launch vehicles. He participated in and presided over the design and development work of 6 missile models, 2 launch vehicle models and the Shenzhou series of spacecraft.
