Wuhan University to Establish 'Lei Jun Class' for 2024 Enrollment

TapTechNews May 30th news, Wuhan University held a press conference on undergraduate top-notch talent cultivation today and disclosed the 2024 undergraduate enrollment plan.

Among them, the "Lei Jun Class" will recruit students for the first time, led by alumnus Lei Jun himself, with a planned enrollment of 30 people, half of whom are for college entrance examination enrollment and half are for the secondary selection for all freshmen in the university.

The dean of Wuhan University's Computer Science College, Du Bo, disclosed that the Lei Jun Class is an important measure for Wuhan University to explore diversified talent cultivation. Led by alumnus Lei Jun himself, it aims to cultivate leading talents in innovation and entrepreneurship in the future computer discipline. Its cultivation characteristics and advantages are mainly reflected in three aspects:

First, school-enterprise co-construction and in-depth integration of production and education, and internship in leading enterprises such as Xiaomi.

Second, customized cultivation and diversified and individualized development, supporting 100% of students in the Lei Jun Class who meet the academic standards to be admitted to graduate school without examination, 100% to be directly promoted to a doctorate, and 100% funding for students' international exchanges and studies.

Third, three instructors jointly educate to comprehensively improve students' abilities. The senior advisory mentor group led by alumnus Lei Jun himself participates in the comprehensive quality cultivation of students; Academician Zhang Pingwen, the president, leads 15 academic advisors to guide students in elective courses and construct a knowledge system to ensure regular offline communication; Senior engineers from Xiaomi lead 15 engineering mentors to cultivate students' full-stack engineering practical ability.

Du Bo said: "Studying in the Lei Jun Class, students will obtain the best academic resources, teaching resources, engineering practice resources and alumni resources of Wuhan University. The next Lei Jun is very likely to be born in the Lei Jun Class."

According to TapTechNews' previous report, on November 29 last year, Lei Jun, an alumnus of the 1987 computer department of Wuhan University, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, donated 1.3 billion RMB to his alma mater. Lei Jun said that this donation mainly focuses on three directions: supporting basic research in six disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, literature, history, and philosophy; supporting technological innovation in the field of computer; supporting the cultivation of college students.

On March 11 this year, Wuhan University announced that at the suggestion and donation of the Lei Jun Foundation, it will jointly establish a robot department with Xiaomi to conform to the trend of the digital age and promote in-depth integration of industry-university-research.
