Important Breakthroughs in Lithium-Tin Prospecting in the Himalayan Metallogenic Belt

TapTechNews August 22nd news, according to the official news of the China Geological Survey, from August 20th to 22nd, in order to speed up the implementation of the work deployment of the new round of strategic action for prospecting breakthrough of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the China Geological Survey, and vigorously promote the construction of the Himalayan metallogenic belt and large-scale resource bases, The academic seminar on the progress of lithium-tin prospecting in the Himalayan and the construction of large-scale resource bases was held in Shannan, Tibet.

TapTechNews note: The metallogenic belt is also known as the metallogenic zone/belt (Metallogenic zone/Belt), which is an area with commonalities in geological structure, geological development history, and mineralization, and is distributed in a narrow and long band called a belt (length-width ratio greater than 2), and the one with a similar length-width ratio is called a zone (less than 2:1).

The conference focused on the progress and prospecting direction of lithium-beryllium-tin and other prospecting in the large-scale resource bases of the Himalayan metallogenic belt, sorted out and summarized the research results and progress of the Himalayan collisional orogenic process and the polymetallic mineralization law of lithium-beryllium-tin, analyzed the key scientific issues restricting the construction of resource bases, and discussed the deployment direction of the work of resource base construction. Experts and scholars from the China Geological Survey, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Tibet Autonomous Region Geological Prospecting Bureau, Nanjing University, China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and other institutions and universities gave conference reports.

In the opinion of the conference, units such as the Chengdu Geological Survey Center have been conducting geological survey work in the Himalayan metallogenic belt for a long time. On the basis of finely dissecting the structure and material framework of the Cuona Dong Dome in the eastern section of the Himalayan, an innovative new model of Himalayan magma-dome-rare metal mineralization was proposed. In 2023, a large tin-polymetallic deposit was discovered in the Xianglin area of Longzi by using this model, and a pegmatite-type lithium deposit was newly discovered in the Gapo area. Since this year, the drilled holes implemented in the Gapo area have basically seen ore in each hole, achieving important prospecting breakthroughs, and it is expected to submit the first large-scale lithium deposit in the Himalayan metallogenic belt.

The conference pointed out that the Himalayan tectonic belt is an important part of the Eastern Tethys tectonic domain, and has the world's largest-scale highly differentiated leucogranite belt, with good potential and prospecting prospects for lithium-beryllium-tin polymetallic mineralization. It is necessary to coordinate the superior forces of the whole system of the bureau and preferentially select a number of key areas with large resource potential and capable of quickly achieving prospecting breakthroughs. At the same time, increase the intensity of basic geological surveys and scientific and technological research, create a model of coordinated linkage between the central government, local governments, and enterprises, and promote the construction of large-scale resource bases such as lithium-tin in the Himalayan metallogenic belt.
