Amazon's Game Plans LOTR MMO, New Tomb Raider & More

TapTechNews Jun 29 - Christoph Hartmann, the former 2K co-founder and Amazon Game vice president, shared the plans for the Lord of the Rings MMO game and the new Tomb Raider game in an interview with Variety.

Hartmann mentioned that it takes five years or longer to make a game. Amazon Game's approach is a long-term strategy (longgame), and currently, eight games are in development.

We are not frantically acquiring studios - you know, sometimes it succeeds, but no one talks about those failed studio acquisitions which are actually far more than the successful ones - rather, let's focus on internal development and selectively acquire external games. Since the beginning until now, we have eight games in development, and we will start to release games more regularly. But I also believe that you can really focus on two to three games every year.

When talking about the already announced Tomb Raider and Lord of the Rings projects, Hartmann said that both games won't be released tomorrow, but not too far away, confirming that the games have 3A-quality and won't be rushed to market.

It’s not going to be tomorrow, but it’s not too far away.

TapTechNews previously reported that Amazon is collaborating with the Embracer Group (now split into Middle-earth Enterprises) to develop the Lord of the Rings MMO massively multiplayer online game.
