NBC Announces Plan to Use AI Voices for Olympics Coverage on Peacock

NBC has now announced that the Peacock streaming platform will启用 AI-generated voices based on real human sports announcers to be used for broadcasting and commentating on the 'Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock' program.

Starting from July 27 local time, users who have subscribed to Peacock can go to the specially set 'Olympic Center' section of the platform to watch the highlights of the Paris Olympics - including content such as the three favorite sports events of their choice, behind-the-scenes stories of athletes, popular moments, and more. Starting from July 28, this section will collect and customize highlight videos from the Olympic Games every day.

Peacock said that it is expected to generate nearly 7 million personalized Olympic highlight videos during the 2024 Paris Olympics, and they will becommentated by the AI version of Michaels.

The 'AI anchor' will'reproduce' the voice of NBC sports announcer Al Michaels and commentate on each highlight. It is introduced that before providing audio and video content to users, the NBC editorial team will review all content in advance to ensure quality and accuracy.

Specifically, the voice of the 'AI anchor' is trained based on the content that Michaels has broadcast on NBC in the past. And Michaels himself said, 'When I was asked about this matter, I was skeptical, but obviously very curious. Then I saw the detailed idea of what they demonstrated, and I decided to get involved.'
